book club

We are launching an exciting new book club! We are using new readers especially for people who are not native-English, which have vocabulary help. Please see the following link to the website: www.macmillanreaders.com

Come and join us for a coffee and a chat about a book, poem, song or a film. Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:30. It is a great chance to mix with other people and to make friends. We go to the pub after to continue the conversation.

The books cost £7.25 and can be ordered through the school. Each book has 6 short stories in it by brilliant, famous writers. Everyone welcome - beginner to advanced.

read a review from Beatriz, a student...

Persuasion is Jane Austen's last completed novel and it was published posthumously in 1817.
The story begins several years after Anne Elliot, a woman in her late twenties and raised by his vain father and two sisters, has broken her engagement with Frederick Wentworth, taking the advice of her very good friend Lady Russel.
At the time of the refusal Frederick seemed an inadequate match for her but when they meet again the tables are turned and Anne and her family are poor whereas Frederick is rich and has become Captain in the meantime.
Through twist and turns of jealousy and romance, Anne and Frederick find themselves in uncomfortable situations that brew up old feelings (that were probably never lost...).

In my opinion, the whole novel is worth reading because the author gives the message across in a delightful way, more than simple words.
